Austin Street Tacos
Even though owner and operator Kathryn Rocheleau has lived in Bend for 25 years, her native Texan roots and taste for the tacos of her Austin alumni city, never left her. After working in the software industry as a business analyst for over 15 years, her dream of running her own food cart became a reality after an unexpected layoff in March 2017. Just two months later, Austin Street Tacos was up and running, thanks to her years of culinary practice of cooking and writing her way through her own food blog since 2011. Those two months were spent perfecting the recipes that give Austin Street Tacos the authentic taste that keeps people coming back for more. The local-made fresh corn tortillas are individually char-grilled to order (double-stacked street-taco style), and it's not unusual for people to order at once the Shiner Bock Carne Asada, Traditional Carnitas, and Chicken Tinga to enjoy all three favorites.
While Austin Street Tacos may be the smallest establishment at The Podski, it delivers big on flavor and authenticity. Along with three meat tacos to choose from, AST also offers a Texas-style pinto bean and cheese taco on flour, and a FREE salsa bar with Pico de Gallo made fresh daily, chopped cilantro, onion, jalapeños, and of course lime wedges. And don't forget the salsa! Choose from home-made fire-roasted red salsa along with Texas Green Sauce, a smooth jalapeño sauce you don't want to miss. Kathryn loves being parked at The Podski because it gives her a chance to interact with her customers while they enjoy the cozy inner-court layout of the food pod.
